Packing List for Camping With Your Pup

This is now Mu’s third summer joining on camping adventures, and it has definitely been a journey to figure out what exactly we should bring with us. By now, we’ve gotten it pretty ironed out, and wanted to share our essentials.

Disclaimer: I am the first to say you do not need tons of gear to adventure with your dog, nor do you have to spend a ton of money in order to adventure more or be a good dog parent. Many of these items can be found secondhand or affordably on Amazon. We’ve had great success finding items at Goodwill or stores like TJMaxx.

Our camping essentials:

  • collar with contact info

  • flea / tick protection (in whatever form works best for you)

  • collar and leash or harness and leash (whatever you use for a walk or hike)

  • long leash of some kind for a tie-out at the campsite (we use a 15-ft. or 30-ft. depending on the size of your campsite)

  • stainless steel bowl for food

  • food / meds

  • poop bags

  • First aid kit

  • some kind of bag for hikes with a portable water bowl

  • towel

  • toy for playing

  • tupperware for paw-cleaning (I love to have one of these in the car to fill with a bit of water and rinse paws when needed)

Non-essentials we love:

Other popular items:

  • some people like to use a mat at the campsite, but we haven’t tried one so I can’t speak to using one

  • a crate as needed

  • coat / jackets / booties / life jacket depending on activities

Anything else you would add? Let me know in the comments!
